Understanding Legal Terms: Simplifying Your Intake Experience
If you just got off the phone with our intake team and are unsure about some of the terms they used, I’m here to clarify. Hi, I’m Tahlequah family attorney Aaron Grubb at Wirth Law Office, and in this video, we’ll go over what some of those terms mean.
First, let’s talk about the retainer agreement. A retainer is when you provide us with a sum of money that we hold in trust. As we work on your case, we’ll bill against that amount at our hourly rate (which may vary depending on who’s working on your case). Over time, as work is done, the retainer amount depletes.
Understanding the Evergreen Retainer
If you’ve signed up for what’s called an Evergreen Retainer, that means you’ll receive an invoice at the end of each billing cycle to replenish the trust amount. Once your case is concluded, if there’s any money left in the trust, it’s returned to you. Any amount we’ve billed stays with us.
This system helps ensure that we have the resources necessary to provide you with fast and efficient legal representation. If you have any more questions about the vocabulary used during our intake process or if you have any other legal concerns, feel free to reach out.
